The logo of the Paris 2024 Olympics and Paralympics Games is seen on an official toy mascot at the Doudou et Compagnie factory in La Guerche-de-Bretagne near Rennes in Brittany, France, April 12, 2023. "Between now and the Games, Paris 2024 will continue to monitor, in conjunction with the relevant authorities, the veracity of information circulating about the event and its organisation," Paris 2024 said in a statement on Tuesday. Ties between Paris and Baku have been strained in recent months and have worsened since Baku took control of the Nagorno-Karabah region. Paris 2024 said it was not the first time such campaigns had been aimed at the Games. In summer 2022, a video from New York Insider linking the June riots to the organisation of Paris 2024 went viral, it said.

Wherever they run, night trains are complicated, labor intensive and expensive to operate – one of the major reasons they went into decline in the first place. The $770 million contract could eventually see up to 370 new overnight carriages introduced to update Italy’s entire overnight train fleet. “Politicians must be clear: the night train market will be effectively closed for a very long time,” he says. So, what does all this mean for the much-vaunted night train revolution? With the honorable exception of government-subsidized Nightjet, which plans to expand rapidly over the next five years, European night train services have yet to match the hype.

China publishes rules to boost data security in money brokering
  + stars: | 2023-08-30 | by ( ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +2 min
SHANGHAI, Aug 30 (Reuters) - China published rules on Wednesday aimed at boosting data security in the money brokering industry, five months after a disruption in data services caused two days of chaos in the country's $21 trillion bond market. Five financial watchdogs, including the central bank as well as forex and securities regulators, urged interdealer brokers to improve data and risk management, and safeguard data security. Interdealer brokers, when offering data services, "must not endanger national security, financial safety and public interest," the regulators said in a joint statement. Chinese regulators in March suspended the data feed business of money brokers, citing data security concerns, triggering a slump in bond trading turnover as many traders lost immediate access to real-time data. China has in recent years grown more concerned over data security and rolled out new laws and compliance requirements for companies.

A new all-business class airline called BermudAir is launching flights to the US on August 31. BermudAir's jets will start service with 88 coach seats before "Aisle Class" is installed in November. On Thursday, new airline BermudAir officially launched as the archipelago's only carrier flying year-round service to and from the US. The inaugural flight will be on August 31 from Bermuda L.F. Wade International Airport to Boston Logan International Airport, and bookings are now open to the public. However, supply chain issues have delayed the all-business class configuration, so the first few months of flying will see 88-seater jets only filled to half capacity.

The case against Saint-Gobain and its local unit was filed to the Competition Commission of India (CCI) in May by a retired glass industry executive, whose name was redacted in the documents as the person sought confidentiality. Saint-Gobain has a 44% share of the float glass market in India and a 19% share of the coated one, according to the documents. The group and its India unit, Saint-Gobain India Private Limited, "conduct their activities in compliance with laws", in particular competition law, it said. The May 25 case documents allege Saint-Gobain entered into agreements with glass processors, forcing them to "exclusively" purchase glass from the company or face stopped supplies if that obligation is not fulfilled. Saint-Gobain counts India as a key market.

European shares climb on Saint-Gobain, Elekta boost

Feb 24 (Reuters) - European shares opened higher on Friday, boosted by upbeat earnings reports from French construction materials giant Saint-Gobain and Swedish radiation therapy equipment Elekta. The STOXX 600 index (.STOXX) climbed 0.4% by 0811 GMT, keeping with a rise in Asian markets after the Bank of Japan ruling out an early end to super-easy monetary policy pushed bond yields lower globally. Compagnie de Saint-Gobain (SGOB.PA) gained 5.5%, pushing the European construction and materials index (.SXOP) up 0.8% after it posted record annual revenue that exceeded analysts' expectations on strong growth in all its regions on Thursday. Elekta (EKTAb.ST) jumped 7.7%, to the top of the STOXX 600 after positive third-quarter earnings. German chemicals giant BASF SE (BASFn.DE) fell 3.7% as it flagged a decline in annual earnings and said it plans to cut 2,600 jobs and halt buybacks.
Sunken oil tanker merger leaves CEO adrift
  + stars: | 2023-01-10 | by ( ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +2 min
LONDON, Jan 10 (Reuters Breakingviews) - Promising to lock his main shareholder in a “gilded prison” may not have been the best way to win support for a controversial merger. So now Euronav (EUAV.BR) Chief Executive Hugo De Stoop will not head the $6 billion oil tanker empire that would have resulted from a deal with rival Frontline (FRO.OL). The slightly smaller suitor on Monday called off an all-share deal that dated back to last April, when the parties agreed to merge. Investors’ apparent surprise came even though Euronav’s main shareholder, family-controlled Compagnie Maritime Belge, increased its stake to more than 25%, with the apparent goal of crippling the deal. They do not reflect the views of Reuters News, which, under the Trust Principles, is committed to integrity, independence, and freedom from bias.
Jan 9 (Reuters) - Oil tanker company Frontline (FRO.OL) said on Monday a $4.2 billion deal to merge with rival Euronav NV (EUAV.BR) was terminated, a combination which would have created the world's largest publicly listed tanker company. Frontline will not make a voluntary conditional exchange offer for Belgian oil tanker and storage operator Euronav's shares and will no longer seek a listing on Euronext Brussels, it said in a statement. "We regret that we could not complete the merger as envisaged in July 2022, as that would have created the by far largest publicly listed tanker company," Chief Executive Lars Barstad said. The two companies announced the deal last year, aiming to create a market-leading oil tanker group with 146 vessels. However, since the announcement of the planned merger, Euronav had clashed with its biggest shareholder Compagnie Maritime Belge (CMB), which sought to block it.
